SPORT PSYCHOLOGY · DR. MARLON MELVILLE

Use the metaphor without mistaking it for anatomy

Translate a rapid reaction into an observation, a considered response and a practised habit.

Use a fictional or non-identifying example. This worksheet supports learning; it is not a psychological assessment. Write on a printed copy or choose “Return” to build a downloadable plan online.

1. Describe the event and reaction

Separate what was observed, what was felt and what was assumed about another person.

2. Choose a considered response

What would a response consistent with the athlete's values and responsibilities look like?

3. Design a safe habit to practise

Choose a brief pause or communication routine for an appropriate moment. Maintain responsibility for conduct.

4. State the model's limit

Explain the plan in ordinary language without claiming there are three literal brain systems.
