Turn a selection goal into a weekly plan

Connect an outcome goal to a performance target, a controllable action and a realistic review.

Use a fictional or non-identifying example. This worksheet supports learning; it is not a psychological assessment. Write on a printed copy or choose “Return” to build a downloadable plan online.

1. Name the longer-term aim

Identify who or what else influences the outcome. Why is the aim meaningful to the athlete?

2. Choose a personal performance target

Use a relevant baseline and an agreed way of observing progress. Do not invent a universal target.

3. Choose an action and a realistic opportunity

What can the athlete practise within the existing programme? Account for school, travel and recovery.

4. Set a review and an adjustment rule

When will athlete and coach review feedback? What will change if the opportunity or task proves unsuitable?
