SPORT PSYCHOLOGY · DR. MARLON MELVILLE

Separate the run of play from the story

Sort observations, perceptions and explanations before attributing a scoring run to momentum.

Use a fictional or non-identifying example. This worksheet supports learning; it is not a psychological assessment. Write on a printed copy or choose “Return” to build a downloadable plan online.

1. Record what happened

List the events in order. Keep the score sequence distinct from explanations about confidence or emotion.

2. Mark what is unknown

What would need athlete reports? What information about defence, decisions or possession quality is missing?

3. Consider alternative explanations

Include opposition changes and other relevant conditions before making a psychological claim.

4. Define the next observation

Specify what you would record in the next phase and how you would avoid choosing only favourable sequences.
